FTTH Solution

FTTH Solution

Overview

With the development of social informatization, people have more and more demand for information, such as VR, HDTV, HD video, 3D games, cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things, cloud storage, etc., and new applications emerge one after another. The explosive growth of data volume will inevitably lead to higher requirements for network bandwidth capabilities. The access network closest to users often becomes a bottleneck, and the upgrade of the access network is imminent. The original copper access (ADSL or Cable Modem) has been unable to meet the high bandwidth requirements of current users.

FTTH is fiber-to-the-home, with fiber as the transmission medium, which can provide users with higher bandwidth to meet the needs of diverse voice, video and data services. It will gradually replace other copper access technologies. PON (Passive Optical Network) refers to the Passive device from the central office to the client. It does not contain any active devices. This technology is recognized as the best FTTH access technology in the industry due to its high bandwidth and network stability. The advantages of convenient management and maintenance, low cost, etc., have been unanimously recognized by major operators around the world, and are currently the preferred solution for access networks.

Focusing on the development of PON technology and products, WOLCK has a rich PON product line that provides end-to-end product solutions.

Introduction to PON access technology and standards

PON (Passive Optical Network) is a P2MP (point to multiple point) network system. It consists of three parts: an OLT (Optical Link Terminal), an ODN (Optical Distribution Network), and an ONU (Optical Network Unit). Figure 1 shows.

Figure 1 Schematic diagram of PON network structure

The PON network uses WDM technology to realize the uplink and downlink optical signals transmitted on the same optical fiber. The downstream optical signal has a wavelength of 1490 nm and the upstream optical signal has a wavelength of 1310 nm. Data transmission uses downlink broadcast, uplink time division multiplexing (TDM) technology to complete point-to-multipoint communication.

At present, the mainstream solutions of the PON access network include GPON (Gigabit-Capable PON) and EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network). The PON standardization organization IEEE, ITU-T/FSAN researches EPON and GPON technologies respectively and outputs relevant standards.

IEEE is known as the American Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. It is an association of international electronic technology and information science engineers. It is one of the world's largest professional and technical organizations with approximately 400,000 members. In the field of PON access, IEEE completed the 802.3ah standard in 2004, and in 2005 merged with the Ethernet standard IEEE802.3 standard as a standard, which has not changed. Under the premise of inheriting most of the technical features of 1G EPON, IEEE studies the functions of 10GEPON physical layer and part of the data link layer, and introduces 10GE-PON technology. It only redefines the PHY physical layer without changing the MAC layer control protocol of the existing EPON. The specification upgrades the uplink and downlink transmission rates to (10G/DS 1G/US or 10G/DS/US) and releases the 802.3av 10G EPON standard in September 2009.

FSAN (Full Service Access Network) is the most influential organization in the industry to research optical access technologies (B-PON, E-PON, G-PON). It is initiated by operators such as BT/Bellsouth and focuses on next-generation optical. Access network technology. The original intention of the organization was to establish a common view and goal through mainstream operators and manufacturers in the interoperability and implementation of xPON. ITU ITU is the UN agency responsible for ICT matters. The research output of FSAN is the input of ITU-T SG15 Q2, so the research of the two is essentially the same. In 2003, ITU-T approved the G.984 series of GPON standards.

The domestic communication industry standards for EPON and GPON are mainly drafted by CCSA's T access network working group. At present, the formulation of the corresponding national standards has been completed. Such as EPON national standard YD/T 1475-2006 "access network technical requirements - Ethernet-based passive optical network EPON", GPON national standard YD/T 1949-2009 "access network technical requirements - Gigabit passive optical network (GPON).
Based on relevant international standards and national standards, China Telecom has launched the "China Telecom EPON Equipment Technical Requirements" V3.0 version "China Telecom GPON Equipment Technical Requirements" with the goal of enhancing the interoperability and operation and management capabilities of PON systems. It has a good guiding significance for the interoperability of the system.

FTTH solutions and products

WOLCK provides a new generation of passive optical network product solutions based on PON system network-based FTTH solutions, complying with international and domestic related GPON and EPON standards, and meeting the transmission requirements of high-speed Internet, voice and video services. The solution can provide the last mile of fiber access for all kinds of network operators; it can also be applied to professional networks of customers in various industries, such as radio and television access networks, video surveillance networks, enterprise LANs, etc., serving radio and television, transportation, Customer-specific networks in the energy, power, finance and government industries.

FTTH solution based on PON system:

The central office (computer room) OLT is the core of the entire PON system, providing a high-speed interface for accessing information such as voice and data, and providing a PON interface for the passive optical distribution network downward. The OLT is the control center of the PON system, through which the network management system completes the operation, management, and maintenance of the PON system.

The client ONU provides users with service interfaces such as data, network video, and telephone. The protocols such as Ethernet and GEM are used to implement transparent transmission of user data by the PON system.

The ODN network between the OLT and the ONU is a passive optical distribution network composed of an optical splitter and an optical fiber. Its function is to complete the distribution and convergence of optical signals, so that downlink data is distributed to each ONU terminal, and uplink data is aggregated. Go to the OLT device. The ODN network can be based on the actual use environment, and can adopt the first-level splitting or two-stage splitting scheme.

WOLCK has EPON and GPON products that meet diverse application scenarios. Including box, plug-in, mini, field OLT products, as well as SFU, HGU and CATV functional models and other rich ONU products.

OLT products include box OLT, compact OLT, plug-in OLT and field OLT products. The box OLT and mini OLT series products are 1U height and support 19-inch standard rack-mounting. They are compact, convenient, flexible, easy to deploy, and high-performance. They meet the requirements of equipment performance and volume in a compact machine room environment.
The mini OLT is smaller and fits the installation requirements in the corridor or equipment box.

Plug-in OLT products can be configured with different numbers of boards according to application requirements. They are highly integrated, highly flexible, and easy to manage and configure. They are cost-effective products that meet medium and large network access requirements.

The field-type OLT adopts a cast aluminum IP65-grade waterproof enclosure to meet the needs of poles, floor boxes or corridors.
The products are mainly for the two-way network construction of broadcasting and television networks and the telecom operators to provide the last mile of fiber access, large customer broadband access solutions, and also for the three networks of government, public security, large enterprises, network, voice and video integrated access. An application and HD video surveillance system.
